Dreaming of the Commonwealth that has yet to be, and asking, "Why not?"
Why "The Shadow Governor?"
Virginia's two political parties have produced less than impressive leadership over the past two decades.
Our present Governor seems bound by an extreme ideology, but even more by a typically Republican obeisance to corporate interests. The rivals to succeed him seem no better, and - in the case of the Attorney General - far worse.
The Democrats have a very short bench. Since the rise of Mark Warner, for whatever reason, outstanding potential leaders have been decapitated one after another, leaving the party with no really viable candidates for state leadership.
Perhaps it is time for a third option. Pending the rise of an independent, progressive, and electable candidate, this blog will attempt to fill that void.

My influences include a lawyer's bias toward traditional conservatism; a problem-solver's temperamental orientation toward change; an inherited confidence in a nation which has provided opportunity to millions and met enormous challenges in the past; and an informed awareness of how far the present generation has fallen short of that tradition.
With three degrees from the University of Virginia (earned over four different decades), I'm a lifelong student, especially of history and biography.
I've practiced law, served as Secretary of the Commonwealth of Virginia, taught high school, and worked as a professional actor and journalist. For several years, I was full-time caregiver to my mother, in her 90s.
